Christmas Classic #1: “White Christmas” by The Drifters

It’s been said the most popular Christmas song of all time is “White Christmas,” written by Irving Berlin and first performed by Bing Crosby in 1942.   Since then, it’s been recorded by countless artists, and we’ve all sung along with it on the radio.

My favorite version of “White Christmas” was recorded by the Drifters in 1954.

At that time, they were largely unknown.  They would later become famous for hit songs like “Under the Boardwalk,” “On Broadway,” and “Up on the Roof,” to name a few.  But their version of “White Christmas” went unnoticed until 1990 when it was featured in the movie “Home Alone.” A few years later, it re-appeared in another movie, “The Santa Clause.”

Then came this YouTube cartoon, created by animator Joshua Held.  Last time I checked, it had been viewed more than four million times.  Watch, listen, and smile:
