Lorri Wyatt says “Thank You”

David and Lorri Wyatt

Lorri Wyatt sent me a beautiful note Monday night which sums up her feelings toward our community.  As you’ll read, she is overwhelmed by the love and support you have shown since her husband, US Marine Corps Staff Sgt. David Wyatt lost his life, along with four other servicemen on July 16.  We must continue to support Lorri and other family members.  As she says, they have a rough road ahead.  Our community must never forget them.  Here is Lorri’s personal message to you:

Over the past 10 days, my life has been a whirlwind. My entire life changed in an instant. My husband David Wyatt, was an incredible man, father, and husband. He was funny, hardworking, honest, kind, loving and devoted to everyone in it. Everyone that knew David, loved him. He had a way of touching lives, without even knowing he was. On July 16th, we lost him, and our lives will never be the same.

The community of Chattanooga, the military families, and others of this great nation reached out to my family. They sent words of condolences, told us they were praying for us, sent gifts, brought and prepared food. This community has uplifted me, in ways they will never truly understand.

On Friday, the outpouring of love, support, and patriotism from everyone was miraculous. When I watched so many stand in honor of my husband, words can not express how I felt. I could feel the pain Chattanooga had felt from this loss. They stood up to this horrible act done by one man, and showed everyone, that it wasn’t lost at all, but had made us stronger. I want each and everyone of you to understand that I feel the love, the hurt, the grief you are all feeling. And for that I want to offer my condolences, my prayers, and my love.

I know that our family has a rough road ahead of us, but it gives us comfort knowing that Chattanooga showed up and respected my husband in a way that will never be forgotten. Our family will never forget the amazing and heartfelt way Chattanooga has been. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

As a fellow scout leader it truly was an honor to serve your family for the sacrifices it has made. It truly is a honor and a blessing to bestow that little bit of time that we stood as one for your family. Forever each memorial day I will always think of this time I spent there and the sacrifices our soldiers and their families make on a daily basis. Placing the flags on those fallen soldiers has taken for me a more personal and profound meaning. This event will forever tie me as well to my new home Chattanooga.

I am so sorry for the loss of your husband.I have read so much about him in the last few days and he must have been an amazing man. It is horrific that the actions of one evil person can destroy so many lives and leave so much hurt behind. I have prayed for your family since it happened and I will continue to pray. God bless you and keep you.

Having grown up as a military brat, I know this life is full of saying good-bye to friends and family. We never liked it. It was always hard. It was part of our life, last week you unexpectedly said good bye to your best friend. That does not even compare to the good byes of leaving a base or post for a time while here.
I grieve for your family in this good bye. I pray for the hope you may have of someday seeing your beloved once more. Meanwhile, I pray for God theFather’s loving arms to surround you and your family over the weeks, months and years ahead. HE is always faithful.

    Lorri,

First, I am so sorry for the loss of your husband. I cannot begin to imagine the pain you and your family are going through right now. My husband served with David during his time at Mike Battery (and many years ago they were actually bunk mates at MOS school). We attended his services on Friday and your family did a wonderful job sharing stories about him. I cannot get over the amount of support and love coming from so many people that day. Never in my life have I experienced anything like that and the images from that day will forever impact me. Your husband is a hero and we will NEVER forget the sacrifice he made. We will continue to keep your family in our thoughts and prayers. Much love to you.

Dear Lorri, I cannot find the words to tell you how sorry I am for what has happened to you and your family. I was at CNC for the service that you graciously shared with us and my heart broke to see your family having to go this. I know the impact of this has probably not even begun to set in as the days go by and the hectic times slow. I just want you to know that I will be thinking of you and praying for God to give you the strength to cope. Also, I know that I am not alone in wanting you to know how much we appreciate your sharing of stories and pictures to allow us to know what kind of a person your husband was. Your kind words to us, as you go through your grief, is unbelievable. Thank you again.
